I’m Fine

I’m Fine
Anytime I see someone I know I will greet them and then ask how they are. 99.99% of the time they will answer with some form of “I’m fine” I think as a society we have conformed to saying this answer. It’s easy to say. There is really no thought process and we don’t have to get emotionally connected to the answer. I am guilty of this a lot.
I ponder why we reply with this answer. Is it that we fear the person asking the question does not care how we really are. Is it that we just really don’t want to think about how we really feel. We can mask our true feelings with the “standard” answer.
I will tell you that when I ask you how you are doing I truly care. I have passed someone walking the opposite direction and ask them how they are doing. If they do not answer by the time I pass them I will turn around and make eye contact and I will validate what they say.
I feel as a society we have become numb to how those around us our. I have said numerous times that I feel like our society is an ME society. The world is all about ME. What I can get from you, How does what you are doing affecting me. We really need to break that stigma and start caring for our fellow humans.
