Blind Pick

I have not watched a full season of “The Voice”  I have watched the “Blind Auditions”  For some reason, I am addicted to this concept of a blind audition.  The judges are in pods that are facing away from the contestant.  They don’t know anything about the contestant except for their name.

The following youtube video is a prime example of a person not being what their voice songs like.  This guy has a very soulful voice.  Yet his appearance is totally different than his voice.

I think another reason I like the blind auditions is that there are no other distractions fogging our view and perception of a person.

Sometimes I wish people would accept me for who I am inside rather than my outside appearance.  I have noticed walking into a new environment (work/a restaurant etc)  The first thing that most people already in the environment do is scan the new person from head to toe.  I just think that is so sad that you are judging me before I open up my mouth.

I think this definitely can happen for an interview for a job.  The manager has looked at your resume, they are impressed with your skills.  They call you in for an interview.  If you are dressed frumpy, or you are smacking your gum.  You should assume that your resume will be filed in the circle basket when you walk out the door.

Don’t get me wrong you should definitely be ready and prepared for an interview.  But not everyone can afford a nice interview outfit.  Maybe they get nervous so they thought the gum would be a helpful aid to nerves.  But it is easier to judge the person by their appearance than by their skills.

I think we should accept people for who they are, not what they look like.  I have seen so many people that outward appearance they could walk the runways of Mulan.  Yet on the inside, they are ugly.  They are mean to people.  Just plain ugly.
