Not In Paradise

At the beginning of the summer Bachelor in Paradise reality show was put on hold due to a producer reporting that an “interaction” had happened between two of the cast members.  Over a matter of hours after the first report information came out that it was a sexual assault.  And just a few hours later the names of the 2 people were reported.  Not only did the fact of a sexual assault was recorded and no one tried to stop it bother me.  The fact that the name of the victim was reported.

Some people would say that they went on a reality show their lives were an open book.  I disagree with that.  No matter if someone is a celebrity or not I do not think that the media has the right to disclose the name of a victim unless that person signed an information release form.

The media would defend that “the public wants to know”  If you do not report about the situation no one would even know.  I don’t even understand why the media would even think that this is news worthy information.  If the tables were turned and that was their daughter or son that had been sexually assaulted I feel they would do everything they could to protect their loved one.

We should not be blasting the name and face of a victim all over the media outlets.  It is as though they are being re-victimized.  They have lost the ability to make a choice in the sexual assault and then in losing their privacy.  The victim should have the right to be open about the assault only if they want to.  It should not be forced.  When is enough going to be enough?  Take Care Much Love.
