To Be My Life

Making something your life versus Making something of your life.

Both of these statements sound similar yet are so different.

  1.  Making something your life – Is giving something everything you have.  It goes deeper than that.  This thing becomes who you are.  You are so engulfed that it takes up all your time, money, effort.  This can be good to have this type of passion.  But I think it can become so much of who you are that you can lose who you are.  It is definitely good to have a balance.  Because before you know it you will become the things that you gave all your time and effort to. Sure, working toward a degree, holding a part-time job, participating on a team, or whatever it is that we are busy with has a purpose, but what if the purpose goes beyond what we can see? What if it is all part of a bigger picture, woven together to fulfill an even greater purpose?
  2. Making something of your life.  Basically meaning being successful at your passion.  Fulfilling your lifetime dream.  To become successful through one’s effort and initiative.  There is a balance yet the passion is still there.  Often times I think that if I am busy and working towards something, that I have direction and purpose. For example, as a college student, I’m working toward a degree. That’s a direction, right? Or as a nanny, I’m working toward making the children I watch feel loved and taken care of, wouldn’t that be a purpose? Or an athlete playing a sport, working to become better with each practice and game, wouldn’t that have direction and purpose?

Whether you’re ready or not, it’s about surrendering the “little things,” and with time, you’ll be able to do the same with the “big things.” I encourage you, to work at it.  You aren’t alone.
